Boost your wellness by believing in yourself.

June 8, 2015 by Tracy

Did you know that wellness is about more than just health? It is far more than being free from illness or disease.

To achieve a total feeling of well-being you need a healthy balance of the mind, body and spirit, this comes from being comfortable with decisions you make in all areas of life and the knowledge that you are following the right path and achieving your full potential. This in turn helps you live a higher quality life, positively contributing to your family environment, your social circles and your community.

You may well be tracking along very nicely, and feel you have everything in hand, and then a seed of self doubt can creep in to upset the apple cart and throw everything off kilter, causing stress, anxiety and ultimately (if left unaddressed) illness.

It happens to us all. Over the last six months I have made some dramatic changes to alter the course I want my life to take, allowing me to achieve what I believe to be my full potential. I have stepped away from a successful thirty year career in beauty therapy; and set myself on a path of higher education in something that I have always felt was my true calling, the prevention and reversal of cancer and the study of natural medicine and wellness through alternative and integrative cancer therapies.

I’ve been happy, and excited and already achieved some of the goals I have set myself; and yet two days ago it appeared… That niggle of self-criticism that I might not be doing the right thing… Have I chosen the right path or am I crazy to have stepped away from a business that was successful and certainly required less sacrifices from myself and my family?

I feel fortunate to know how to handle these times of uncertainty. I know how to reassert the belief I have in myself and by following a few simple steps I’m now in a much more positive place. I hope that my tips below help you find the inner strength to believe in yourself and achieve total wellness.

  1. Be kind to yourself – Firstly, don’t beat yourself up. As I said self doubt happens to us all! You’re not weak or silly, you’re just experiencing a real human emotion. Give yourself the gift of recognising that.
  2. Replenish yourself – This sounds silly, but sometimes it’s a lack of sleep or essential nutrients that can cause these emotions. Re-energise yourself in whatever way works for you. A nanna-nap, a cup of tea in a quiet room, a meditation or a brisk walk outside. Park the self-doubt, and do something that’s just for you. Then come back and re-assess.
  3. Recognise yourself – Focus on the positive things you achieve every day. If you have set yourself goals, look at the milestones you have already accomplished.
  4. Write to yourself – It’s amazing how committing things to paper, seem to help us unravel problems. A journal is a good thing. When you look back and recognise that you have had these moments of uncertainty before and come out the other end it gives you faith.
  5. Motivate yourself – Picture yourself at your end goal, how awesome would it be, imagine that feeling of total wellness, knowing that you have achieved what you set out to do.

Raw Food – Be inspired…

April 27, 2015 by Tracy

Last month I was fortunate to attend the International Integrated Health Conference in San Diego. It was so inspiring, there were an amazing group of Leading Edge Experts, Doctors, Naturopaths, Health Advocates and Cancer Survivors and Thrivers, all there to share their knowledge and wisdom. I’m so pleased to be able to bring this back to New Zealand with me, and I’m armed with blog topics for several months ahead.

Today I want to talk with you about the Raw Food diet…. At the conference, I was lucky enough to meet with and attend one of Joan Jackson’s workshops, Joan is known as the Raw Kitchen Magician. After reversing her own poor health and losing over 120 pounds, Joan has made it her mission to bring raw food to the masses, she wants to show you how easy it is to make raw food work within an everyday lifestyle.

A couple of myth-busters to start…

  • A raw food diet is not a “new fad”, in fact it’s completely the opposite, the human race began eating raw food, our original diet was uncooked and vegetarian.
  • Raw food is not rabbit food and it is certainly not bland. The foods I tasted in Joan’s kitchen were tastier than many of the dishes I’ve sampled in really good restaurants.

Joan runs her workshops out of the “Healing House”, offering a real community environment for education and inspiration, I found it to have a very calming ambience. Joan made a delicious ceviche, and a wonderful lasagne using coconut sheets. I was astounded by the variety of flavours and textures that she managed to produce. Joan makes batches of three fresh sauces every week that she uses in many of her recipes.

  • Cashew nut butter
  • Marinara sauce
  • Pesto

Here are my top three takeaways from Joan’s workshop.

  1. Have the motivation – Joan says if you want to be well you need to eat raw. She says that raw food saved her life. A raw food diet can help you discover what your food intolerances are.
  2. Don’t over think it – Joan says don’t commit to eat 100% raw from the outset, because you will undoubtedly fail. She advises aiming to eat around 80 per cent raw, and suggests that if you’re having a green juice for breakfast, a salad at lunchtime and a salad (with cooked protein) in the evening you’re pretty much there. Of course the key to sustaining this is to make it more interesting, by discovering new recipes and ways of using delicious raw ingredients.
  3. Preparation is key – Joan’s kitchen is amazing! Yes there is an investment in equipment, but once that’s been made the key is in the planning. Joan dehydrates once a month and prepares fresh spreads and dressings once a week. She shops for fresh produce weekly, nuts and seeds monthly and grains quarterly. So if you prepare well, you actually save time, no more daily trips to the supermarket.

Now I’ve made a commitment to myself that I’m going to share with you… I am going to go raw and take my family with me! I just need a little time to prepare, so stay tuned within the next two months, I’ll let you know how it goes….

Also, Joan and I discussed her visiting New Zealand to run 3 workshops later in the year, with one in Nelson – I will try and make this happen and will keep you posted! If you would like to pre-register your interest please email me.

Going Green

March 8, 2015 by Tracy

Over the last few years I have embarked on a journey reading, researching and learning wonderful information that offers the keys to help prevent and heal cancer.  There is a growing movement of highly regarded and intelligent people leading this crusade around the world and sharing their discoveries with others.

I am a great believer that nature has given us some wonderful gifts to help heal, and this belief has only been instilled further, since I have begun to discover more about the use of CBD-rich cannabis oil to treat cancer.

Cannabis

Despite it’s reputation as a “hippy” drug of the 1960s, cannabis, one of the world’s most powerful healing plants has been around for thousands of years. Ancient Chinese physician, Hua Tuo, who lived in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, is credited for its first recorded medicinal use as an anaesthetic. As well as this use in Ancient China, there is also recorded evidence of medicinal use in Ancient Egypt, India, Greece and the Medieval Islamic world.

More recently research has shown that Cannabis Oil can work to kill cancer cells. Cannabinoids may cause antitumor effects by various mechanisms, including induction of cell death, inhibition of cell growth, and inhibition of tumor angiogenesis invasion and metastasis. Read more on the research HERE.

One of the people I am most looking forward to hearing speak at the Integrated Health Conference in San Diego is Constance Finley. Following her own struggle with an undiagnosed autoimmune condition, research into alternative medicine led her to discover the medicinal and life-changing properties of cannabis oil.

Constance has since developed her own product now known as “Constance Pure Botanical Extracts.” She established her business, Constance Pure Botanical Extracts, and started to grow, manufacture and process a pure product made with sustainably and lovingly grown whole plant medicine.

Many well-known integrative oncologists now refer hundreds of patients to her for treatment and today two different groups of doctors are researching her oil.

Today I ask one thing of you, open your mind to possibilities, it is only through doing this that we discover the full potential of our planet, our peers and ourselves.
